🌍 Region of Origin
The Miranese originate from the Northeastern territory of Miran, also known as the Iquari Tundra. The entire territory exists in a state of permafrost. Its winters are devoid sun and the night skies are lit by colorful auroras. The landscape is marked with many fjords, frozen forests and glacier valleys.
The Iquari Tundra was once a seat of power for the Miranese kingdoms. It was harsh but beautiful. Temperatures rarely rose above freezing, and the land was cloaked in twilight for months at a time. Like the Danhilians’ home, this territory is deadly and punishing. Few outsiders survive long in Iquari without the guidance of the Miranese.
Miranese society was meritocratic, in theory, however in practice it was extremely rigid. An individual’s lineage, self-mastery and resonance clarity determined their place in society. Regardless of birth, any Miranese could rise through the Four Harmonies — the hierarchy of the society — but only through renown, and visible, measurable feats and acts that proved pursuit of perfection. These castes are not active in modern day Nova Mir.
🎠Cultural Identity
The Miranese are solemn, and value mastery, memory and mental clarity. They believed that they were superior to the other Hladari and Etharim, thinking themselves more intelligent and disciplined Miranese can often be perceived as arrogant and haughty.
Legacy and ancestry are revered, and Miranese are extremely picky about who they build families with. Birthright and bloodline are what determine status and power in Miranese culture.
Long hair is a sacred symbol of status, wisdom, power, and ancestry. When a Miranese cuts their hair it is always a ritual of shame, grief or rebirth. The longer and better-kept their hair, the more power and respect they command—especially among nobility and other arcanists.
Arcastella Resonance — the unique hum created by the use of the Miranese’ Arcastella — is a major part of their culture. Harmonizing Resonances is considered deeply intimate and is usually used in courtship and duels. Crystal and ice are large parts of architecture and lifestyle because of the interactions with Resonance, which can create “singing crystals” and “singing ice”, as well as absorbing and reflecting the different tones.
đź“– History
The Miranese were created lastly among the other Hladari during the shaping of Sahana—Hladamor’s answer to Etharim’s elegance and unity. The Arcanum gifted them with inherent power surpassing the other races and a reverent appreciation of knowledge. Deep within the Tundra, the Miranese built civilizations of towering spires, academies, libraries, and sanctuaries. Their cities shimmered under the auroras, etched among the ice cliffs and glaciers.
For centuries, they were aloof from the other races and were content to perfect themselves in solitude. They prized knowledge and advancement, so politics were merely distraction. They were the last of the Hladari to join the Malvigo D’arim, however, when they did, they did so with devastating power.
The Miranese didn’t fight for Hladamor’s rage, but they did so to preserve what they believed was the natural order of things. They believed that strength should reign. Their magic was feared across Sahana, with entire battlefields destroyed under their arcane discipline. Later, some Danhilians even sought out Miranese as advisors for their magical and strategic mastery.
Near the end of the Malvigo D’arim, the massive land bridge connecting the island of Miran with the rest of Sahana was destroyed, stranding the remaining Miranese within the Tundra, and offering those in the war no way home.
During the Aureate Trials, the Miranese were highly persecuted, having easily orchestrated the most devastating attacks and events throughout the war. After the Reclamation Act, those within Nova Mir became scholars, advisors, diplomats, and professors.
🧬 Racial Affinity / Unique Trait
The Miranese were Hladamor’s magnum opus. They were his testament to perfection. Born closer to magical perfection than any other living race, their affinity — called Arcastella — is an inherent state of being. Their bodies and minds are attuned to the weave of Sahan from birth, allowing them wield magic with awe-inspiring concentration, clarity and power from their very first spell.
While other races grow into their power, the Miranese begin with it. Their use of Sahan is denser, their spells hit harder and their control and precision is unchallenged.
All Miranese have a unique expression of their magic, their shape, resonance and behavior is determined by the caster’s personality. The hum that their magic produces when used is called “Arcastella Resonance”, or simply “Resonance”, which can be used to empower themselves and others as well as be stored within “singing crystals” that hold the Resonance frequency.
Core Traits of Arcastella
- Innate Magical Supremacy: Every Miranese is born with significantly higher magic potential that the other races. The weakest among the Miranese have the potential to overpower even seasoned mages of other lineages.
- Refined Casting: Their spells are dangerously potent and precise, hyper condensed and efficient.
- Unyielding Stability: Their magic is nearly impossible to disrupt or corrupt. Miranese don’t “miscast” and their wielding of Sahan even in large quantities is controlled enough to prevent destabilization, decay or Fraythane corruption
